the kitchen frequently shifted to the side

The Cape Flats comprises the Areas East of the Northern and Southern Suburbs of Cape Town and is made up of Black Townships, Coloured ghettoes and Shantytowns. It was the area that most Black people were moved to after areas were declared 'White Only' . It is also the area in which most of Migrant labour was housed.

The following drawing extracts information around the kitchen and dining room  examining the different levels  of spatial cleansing in the different areas shown.

The exploration aims to find the critical connections within the intimate/micro spaces and that will later help with explorations on the macro scale of the kitchen imaged as the cape flats.

The Kitchen explores the racial & gendered  nuances of the Cape Flats under the effects of Apartheid.
